Planning a trip has long been a task that involves careful research, comparing flights, and juggling multiple websites. For many travelers, Google has become the go-to resource, particularly through Google Flights, which allows users to identify the best airline options and fare deals. Now, Google is aiming to make this process even more efficient and intuitive with its new AI-driven tool, Flight Deals.
Unlike the traditional experience of manually selecting dates, destinations, and airlines, Flight Deals allows users to interact with the platform using natural language. Travelers can simply describe what they want in plain English—whether it’s a “week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only” or a “10-day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder”—and the AI will handle the complex search and sorting tasks in the background. Google emphasizes that the tool is designed to save money, but it also significantly reduces the time and effort needed to identify a suitable itinerary.
The core strength of Flight Deals lies in its integration with the existing knowledge and data within Google Flights. The AI doesn’t just search for flights; it interprets user prompts, understanding preferences and priorities, and surfaces results that might not have been immediately obvious. This means travelers could discover destinations, airline combinations, or routes they hadn’t previously considered, all tailored to their expressed criteria. The tool essentially bridges the gap between flexible planning and smart optimization, offering options that align closely with the traveler’s intent.
It’s worth noting that Flight Deals is not intended to replace Google Flights. Instead, it functions as a complementary platform, providing an enhanced way to explore options without altering the core Google Flights experience. In fact, Google continues to develop new features for Google Flights itself, ensuring that both platforms remain valuable to users. Flight Deals simply offers an AI-driven shortcut to the same data, making complex searches faster and more user-friendly.
The initial rollout of Flight Deals will begin next week as a beta in the United States, Canada, and India. The feature will be automatically available, with no need for users to opt in or adjust settings. Once live, travelers can access Flight Deals through its dedicated webpage or via the menu in Google Flights, allowing them to start planning trips with the new AI capabilities immediately. Google has not yet announced when or if the tool will be expanded to additional countries.
