Google Maps is employing augmented reality (AR) to take you back in time to view the history of Paris and some of its iconic monuments, which will be available this summer.

Paris has a rich past, which is preserved in many ways, including landmarks and museums. However, utilizing augmented reality (AR) in Google Maps, you can now glimpse some of that history while exploring the city.

Google Maps will employ augmented reality (AR) to explore a city's history, starting this summer and spreading gradually. This includes seeing another version of the Eifel Tower designed for the 1900 World Expo, pavilions built along the Seine for the same fair, and recreations of 1700s-era areas of the city, including the famed Notre-Dame Cathedral.

When you search for a location in Google Maps with AR content, you can explore it directly from the app. Simply tap the "AR Experience" symbol and elevate your handset to experience it through Lens in Maps. If you are not at the landmark, you can still enjoy the experience from anywhere in the world via Street enjoy.

Google states that this experience is available as part of Google Arts & Culture and was created in conjunction with Ubisoft, with more to come in the future.
