Google is pleased to announce an update to the Google Authenticator app for Android and iOS devices, which brings the ability to keep secure backups of one-time codes for authenticating your cloud account.

The use of the Google account to log in to various websites, apps, services, etc. is of huge importance for the digital life of users, which is why the company is taking actions that greatly facilitate everyday life and the ability to switch from one device to another, as well as recovering the codes in case of loss of the device where Google Authenticator is installed.

The latter was launched by Google in 2010 as an easy and quick solution for logging into various services through the two-factor authentication (2FA) function. As we move towards a future without passwords, the use of such applications is particularly important to authenticate our accounts and therefore it was crucial to add the synchronization of one-time passwords in the cloud in order to access them from any device.

Google Authenticator used to keep these passwords stored only on the device the user was using, but now they can access them from anywhere as long as they log into the updated Google Authenticator with the same Google account.
