Google is stepping up its push into AI-driven creativity, unveiling a new update for Google Vids that allows users to transform ordinary photos into short, dynamic video clips with just a few clicks. Powered by Veo 3, this latest feature adds another layer of functionality to the video app that launched last year as part of Google Workspace.
Since its debut, Google Vids has positioned itself as a tool that makes video production more accessible to everyone, regardless of technical know-how. By weaving in generative AI, the platform has steadily expanded its capabilities, and Google says the response has been overwhelmingly positive. More than a million people now use Vids each month, signaling a strong appetite for simple, automated creative tools.
Earlier this summer, Google introduced the option to generate eight-second clips through Veo 3. The new photo-to-video feature builds on that momentum, offering businesses and individuals an even faster way to produce polished content. For companies, the implications are clear: product photos can be turned into engaging promotional videos, while stock images can be given new life with motion and energy. Users guide the animation process through text prompts, ensuring a level of creative control without the complexity of traditional editing software.
But the upgrades don’t stop there. Google Vids is rolling out a series of AI-powered additions designed to further streamline video creation. One standout is AI Avatars, first teased during Google I/O earlier this year. With this feature, users can draft a script and select an avatar to deliver the message on screen, making it easier to produce professional corporate videos without hiring presenters or actors. Another time-saving tool is automatic transcript trimming, which uses AI to clean up recordings by removing filler words and pauses. The aim is to help creators achieve smoother, more polished results with fewer takes.
Looking ahead, Google is already hinting at what’s next for Vids. Upcoming improvements include noise cancellation for cleaner audio and expanded format options such as portrait, landscape, and square—formats tailored for social media, marketing, and different screen sizes.
The update also widens access to the platform. The enhanced features are rolling out today to Business and Enterprise Starter customers, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and Workspace for Education users. Meanwhile, the basic version of the editor—minus Gemini integration—has been opened up to all Google account holders at no extra cost. Even this entry-level option includes templates, tutorials, and creative tips, lowering the barrier for anyone interested in experimenting with video.
As part of its push to onboard new users, Google has launched a fresh tutorial series called “Vids on Vids.” This instructional content highlights the app’s features and showcases practical ways to use the AI tools for real-world projects. From small business marketing to classroom presentations, Google Vids is pitching itself as a versatile, all-in-one solution for modern video creation.
