Designed to transform passive listening into an interactive narrative, this new functionality enables creators and everyday listeners to add custom annotations and context directly to individual tracks, podcast episodes, and audiobooks within their playlists.

For years, digital playlists served primarily as simple sequences of audio tracks. While users could customize cover images, modify descriptions, and refine track transitions, the reasoning behind specific song selections often remained unclear. Playlist Notes bridges this gap by offering a dedicated space for users to record thoughts, memories, or anecdotes attached to specific entries. Whether explaining why a particular song belongs in a summer compilation or recalling a personal memory tied to a melody, the feature shifts the focus from cold data processing to genuine human emotion and story-driven curation.

To demonstrate the impact of this tool, Spotify has integrated Playlist Notes across its flagship editorial properties. Global music curators are actively utilizing the feature on world-renowned playlists such as Today's Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, mint, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop. Through these short annotations, curators detail why specific tracks were selected, offer insight into cultural trends, and highlight pivotal moments in contemporary music history. Furthermore, these notes extend directly to the Now Playing view, ensuring that contextual details remain accessible regardless of how a user accesses the audio content.

Alongside these annotations, the platform is introducing Editor Profiles, allowing users over the age of 16 across key markets—including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand—to learn more about the team members behind major playlists. Listeners can now view curator profiles, explore their personal favorite records, and gain insight into the individuals shaping global music trends.

The feature is equally accessible to individual users and collaborative playlist participants on iOS and Android devices. By tapping the three-dot menu alongside any track, podcast episode, or audiobook and selecting "Add note," users can easily input and save their commentary. These notes become instantly visible to anyone viewing the playlist, with creator usernames linked directly to their personal profiles to encourage community interaction and discourse.

By rolling out Playlist Notes across more than 100 markets globally, Spotify reinforces the idea that music curation is inherently a storytelling art form. By placing human perspective back at the center of the experience, the platform successfully balances algorithmic convenience with genuine personal connection.
