Instagram has unveiled a new feature designed to allow creators to link their Reels together, creating a seamless flow of content across multiple clips. This addition provides users with the ability to organize their Reels into connected sequences, effectively turning individual videos into a larger narrative. The new tool, called “Link a reel,” aims to expand storytelling possibilities within Instagram’s short-form video format.

With the “Link a reel” option, creators can easily connect a series of Reels directly within the app. Whether the clips are freshly created or previously published, they can now be linked to guide viewers through a logical progression. Once a reel is linked to another, a prompt appears at the bottom of the video indicating the next part, such as “Watch Part 2,” allowing audiences to follow the sequence effortlessly. This feature is particularly useful for creators covering multi-part topics, tutorials, or episodic content, where sequential viewing enhances comprehension and engagement.

Beyond storytelling, Reels linking offers a more organized approach to content management on Instagram. By connecting related videos, creators can provide viewers with a curated path through their work, making it easier for audiences to discover all relevant clips. Instagram believes this structured approach will increase user engagement and keep viewers invested across multiple posts, rather than watching individual Reels in isolation.

It is worth noting that similar capabilities already exist on platforms like TikTok. TikTok allows creators to link videos and offers a “Series” option, which enables a collection of connected videos that viewers can follow consecutively. While the concept of linking content is not entirely new to social media, Instagram’s version introduces it natively within Reels, providing a streamlined experience directly in the app. This adaptation represents Instagram’s ongoing efforts to incorporate features that users have long requested, helping the platform stay competitive in the rapidly evolving short-form video landscape.

The introduction of Reels linking also highlights Instagram’s commitment to supporting creators in their content strategies. By enabling connected Reels, the platform provides an additional tool for creators to drive repeat engagement, encourage viewers to spend more time on their profiles, and showcase a broader range of content. For example, a creator producing a multi-step tutorial can now ensure that viewers watch each stage in the intended order, enhancing understanding and improving overall satisfaction with the content.

Instagram emphasizes that the effectiveness of linked Reels relies on thoughtful implementation. Creators are advised to ensure that the videos they connect are genuinely related, as linking unrelated content may frustrate audiences and undermine engagement. When executed correctly, however, Reels linking offers a valuable strategy for building ongoing viewer interest, promoting multiple videos, and creating a more cohesive content ecosystem.

From a user perspective, the feature is simple to use and intuitive. Creators can link new clips during the editing process, or attach existing Reels through the overflow menu. Once connected, each linked Reel displays the “Watch Part” prompt, making the viewing experience seamless for audiences who wish to explore the entire series. This addition complements Instagram’s existing set of tools aimed at increasing interactivity and discoverability, including features like Remix, Collabs, and interactive stickers.

Instagram says that the rollout of Reels linking begins immediately and will be available to all users from today. The company frames this feature as a response to community feedback and a means to enhance both content organization and audience engagement.
