Instagram has released changes to its direct messaging tool, including message editing and pinned chats. Instagram Direct messages may now be updated up to 15 minutes after they are delivered.

To modify a message, long-press on it and select "Edit". Users will see that the material has been altered, and the capability puts Instagram on par with Facebook and Apple's own iMessage editing feature.

Up to three chats can soon be pinned to the top of the message inbox, with support for both group and one-on-one interactions. Swipe left or press and hold on a chat and select "pin" to move it to the top of the messaging display.

Instagram has included a new button for suppressing read receipts, which may be set for all or just certain discussions. The account-wide feature may be enabled in the settings section by selecting Messages and then Story Replies.

Along with these upgrades, Instagram released various additional themes that may be activated per-chat, as well as the ability to store favorite stickers in DMs for easy access. Pressing and holding a sticker saves it.

These new capabilities are being rolled out to Instagram users beginning today, although it may take some time for all options to be available.
