Marvel Rivals is new free-to-play PvP game

27 March 2024

Marvel and NetEase Games have introduced Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play PC team shooter. The game seems similar to Blizzard's popular multiplayer shooter Overwatch, as shown in pictures in the first teaser.

Both games allow users to compete against each other online in team-based battles. Marvel Rivals will feature 6v6 fights, with players able to select from a large number of Marvel Comics heroic characters. Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Rocket Raccoon, Loki, and more. Both games use a cartoony graphic style for its characters and backgrounds.

In Marvel Rivals, players may form teams and use special attacks. The game's official Steam website states:

Unleash the synergy of combined superpowers and invent new tactics that can turn the tide of combat. Ride on Groot's back as Rocket Raccoon to take on your enemies as a dangerous duo, unleash Gamma energy as Hulk to charge Iron Man's armor for massive damage, and so much more!

NetEase plans periodic upgrades for the game, including new Marvel characters and maps. There is still no official release date, but NetEase plans to undertake a restricted alpha test in May.

This is just the latest update on a new Marvel Comics-based game. Future releases include an Iron Man and Black Panther game from Electronic Arts, a Wolverine game from Insomniac, and a World War II-themed game featuring Black Panther and Captain America from Skydance, recently renamed Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
