Meta AI, Meta's AI-powered assistant for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the web, can now communicate in more languages and take stylish selfies. Meta AI users can now send questions to the company's new flagship AI model, Llama 3.1 405B, which can handle more complicated queries than its prior model.

Many reviewers found the Meta AI experience lacking at launch. It remains to be seen if the upgrades will improve the entire experience. Meta AI's early iterations struggled with facts, statistics, and web searches, frequently failing to complete simple tasks such as seeking up recipes and flights.

Llama 3.1 405B may make a difference. Meta states that the new model excels in math and coding questions, making it ideal for assisting with math homework, explaining scientific concepts, debugging code, and so forth.

However, there is a catch. Meta AI users must explicitly switch to Llama 3.1 405B to utilize it, and they are limited to a specific amount of inquiries each week before Meta AI changes to a less competent model (Llama 3.1 70B).

Meta is calling the Llama 3.1 405B integration a "preview" for the time being.

In addition to Llama 3.1 405B, Meta AI includes another new generative AI model that drives the selfie feature.

The Imagine Yourself model generates visuals based on a person's photo and a suggestion, such as "Imagine me surfing" or "Imagine me on a beach vacation." Imagine Yourself is currently in beta and can be accessed in Meta AI by typing "Imagine me" followed by anything non-NSFW.

Meta does not disclose the data used to train Imagine Yourself, but the company's terms of service state that public messages and photographs on its platforms are fair game. Some users have expressed dissatisfaction with the policy and its complicated opt-out process.

Meta AI's Imagine Yourself now includes additional editing capabilities that allow users to add, remove, change, or edit items with prompts such as "Change the cat to a corgi." Starting next month, Meta AI will include a "Edit with AI" button to access extra fine-tuning possibilities. Meta AI users will soon discover new shortcuts for sharing Meta AI-generated images to feeds, stories, and comments across Meta apps, the company said.
