There has been a lot of concern about disinformation floating on social media during the last eight years, starting with Trump's election in 2016. Meta has attempted to fight this with fact-checkers, but Mark Zuckerberg has criticised them as politically biassed and has said that his social media sites will transition to a community notes model beginning in the United States.

In a video broadcast by the CEO, he stated that the zeitgeist surrounding free expression appears to be shifting, and he wants his platforms to adapt with it. He stated that few years ago, there appeared to be a level of political fatigue, and political content was reduced in feeds. Zuckerberg stated that this is going to be reversed.

Zuckerberg also discussed worldwide censorship. He said that more and more censorship rules are being enacted in Europe, that secret courts are being used to remove content in Latin America, and that meta applications are completely forbidden in China. He claimed that the previous administration was likewise attempting to encourage censorship, making the subject of free expression even more difficult during the last four years.

Zuckerberg stated that Meta will collaborate with the US authorities to combat the increasing trend of censorship. Under the new Meta approach, Zuckerberg stated that users will be free to discuss issues such as immigration and gender without being restricted by the corporation. He claimed that while the policies were intended to promote inclusivity, they were utilised to silence people with opposing viewpoints, and that they had gone too far.

Whether you agree with the changes or not, one of the benefits of this transition is that the firm will make fewer mistakes when removing content or accounts. The decision will also allow the corporation to focus more resources on combating unlawful content, such as child exploitation and terrorism.
