No one thought that Google's dominance in search could be in danger, but here's a new debate that has been opened up with the tremendous development of AI and the advent of ChatGPT. It is Microsoft that wants to challenge Google Search's dominance by announcing new versions of its own Bing search engine and Edge browser, which incorporate the latest version of its AI tool OpenAI.
In its presentation, Microsoft talked about the future of AI-powered search, stressing that Bing will be able to serve complex terms and go much deeper than simply presenting options - links to the user. The new operating model is already available for trial for anyone interested, but a wider launch of the Bing search engine will take place in the coming months.
As shown in the various demos, the user will be able to write entire paragraphs (up to 1000 characters) to pose their question or request. Bing will then display classic search results in the left column and complete answers supported by ChatGPT in the right column. In the latter there will be thumbs up/down indicators and options to post new questions as if you were opening a conversation with the AI.
As for the new version of the Edge browser, Microsoft has redesigned it to more closely match the Windows 11 philosophy and has added a new sidebar that essentially gives access to ChatGPT from wherever you are.
