The New York Times buys popular word game Wordle

Τhe popular Wordle word game has now been acquired by The New York Times. Wordle will become an official part of The New York Times portfolio and it will remain free to new and existing players.

The game is played online and allows you to share your daily performance with colorful square emojis. According to a company statement, “The Times remains focused on becoming the essential subscription for every English-speaking person, seeking to understand and engage with the world”.

The New York Times also assures users that “no changes will be made to its gameplay.” Josh Wardle, the software engineer that first developed the fame also noted on Twitter that he is working with the NYTimes to make sure “wins and streaks will be preserved” through the acquisition.
