Twitter expands its downvote test worldwide

Twitter has announced that is expanding its experimental downvote test worldwide. The ability to downvote was initially available to a select group of users, but Twitter says it will soon be available to iOS and Android users as well.

The company announced the global expansion of the test on Thursday, saying it had "learned a lot" about the downvoting option in its initial limited testing:

We learned a lot about the types of replies you don't find relevant and we're expanding this test –– more of you on web and soon iOS and Android will have the option to use reply downvoting.

The company said results of the experiment so far found that users downvoted replies they found offensive or irrelevant. “This experiment also revealed that downvoting is the most frequently used way for people to flag content they don’t want to see,” said Twitter.
