A feature that WhatsApp users have been requesting for years is now a reality: the ability to transfer WhatsApp chats from iOS to Android. While this feature has been available to Samsung Galaxy users for a few months, Google and WhatsApp have collaborated to bring it to other Android users.

Google revealed that the recently announced Pixel 6 series, as well as all current Pixel phones, now enable transferring WhatsApp chat history from an iPhone. According to Google, the functionality will not be limited to Samsung and Pixel smartphones but will be available on every new phone that launches with Android 12.

Connecting your iPhone and Android phone through a Lighting to USB-C connector is required for the transfer process. According to Google, users will be invited to scan a QR code on their iPhone when setting up their new Android phone in order to transfer all WhatsApp messages, media, and other data.

“Starting today, you can safely transfer your chat history and memories from your WhatsApp account on iPhone to Android. We worked closely with the WhatsApp team to build a new set of capabilities, all designed to make it easier to switch from iPhone to Android and take your WhatsApp history with you,” Google said in a blog post.
