Viber introduces AI Link Summary globally

Rakuten Viber announced the rollout of its new AI Link Summary feature, a tool designed to make conversations faster and more efficient. This feature automatically generates a brief summary for every non-private link shared in a chat, allowing you to instantly understand the key points of an article or webpage without having to leave the conversation. Viber is the first messaging platform worldwide to launch AI-powered link summarization.

With AI Link Summary, as soon as someone sends a link, you immediately see a short and clear summary within Viber, whether it is a long article, a blog post, or a report. The feature also includes automatic translation: for example, if your app language is set to Greek and someone sends you an English link, the summary will appear in Greek.

The new feature is free and already available to all Viber users around the world, across all types of chats: one-on-one conversations, groups, communities, and channels. The AI technology processes only the link itself and has no access to your private messages. All private conversations on Viber remain fully protected with default end-to-end encryption. The generated summary is visible only to you when you request it and does not appear to other participants in the conversation.

AI Link Summary is the latest step in Viber’s strategy for broader adoption of artificial intelligence. In 2024, the company launched AI Chat Summary, which automatically summarizes your latest unread messages to help you catch up quickly on long conversations. More AI features are expected soon, always with the goal of saving you time, making daily communication smarter, and improving your overall experience.

The feature is already available globally and will appear automatically in your app in the coming days. It is part of Rakuten Group’s Triple 20 initiative, which aims to increase efficiency by 20 percent in marketing, operations, and customer service through artificial intelligence.
