Face ID facial recognition technology for biometric unlocking and authentication is one of the most important advantages that Apple offers to iPhone users. Although the system works fast and reliably, there are times when it may not respond properly and then you can follow the steps below to fix the situation.
The first thing to do is check the Face ID settings on your iPhone. Go to Settings -> Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode and see if Face ID is enabled. There are various options to use Face ID like iPhone Unlock, iTunes & App Store, Wallet and Apple Pay, Password Autofill, etc. Make sure Face ID is enabled for all the features and apps you want. If the problem is still not fixed, then proceed to the next step.
It may sound obvious, but sometimes the front camera sensor can be blocked by scratches on the protective glass or even heavy dirt or fingers. Replace the coating and clean the front thoroughly.
Go to Settings -> General -> Software and check if there is an iOS update that you haven't installed on your iPhone. Sometimes the operation of Face ID can be stopped by some factor and the issue can be solved with a firmware update from Apple.
All electronic devices can experience crashes from time to time and the solution to any problems can simply be a restart of the iPhone.
If none of the above works, then you can go to Settings -> Face ID & Passcode and from there reset Face ID from scratch.
