WhatsApp's newest feature is the option to share your screen during video calls, which is similar to what video conferencing providers like Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams currently offer. According to a press release, the functionality is accessible via the "Share" icon, after which you'll have the choice of sharing your entire screen or a single app. A new landscape mode for mobile video calls is also on the way.

According to Meta's press release, the function can be used for "sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support." Its debut is part of a surge of new WhatsApp features this year, which has previously included video notes and polls in response to competition from chat apps such as Telegram, Signal, and, perhaps, Discord.

The screen-sharing function of WhatsApp has been steadily rolling out in beta for a few months. The introduction of the functionality in WhatsApp's beta apps for Android, iOS, and Windows has previously been covered by WABetaInfo, a website that frequently discovers WhatsApp innovations before they are formally announced. The complete list of systems for which the screen-sharing feature is now formally accessible has been requested from Meta.

WhatsApp is introducing a new screen-sharing capability as well as a landscape layout for mobile video conversations. This is described by the service as a "wider and more immersive viewing and sharing experience."
