WhatsApp is testing its own Quick Share feature

WhatsApp adds new features year, but some prospective ones may be confusing. WhatsApp appears to be working on a feature that allows users to send files wirelessly, which is among the most requested features. This capability appears to operate on devices that are in close proximity.

WhatsApp is working on allowing individuals to send files instantly. This is in addition to the existing file-sharing platforms on Android cellphones and iPhones. According to WABetaInfo, the beta version (2.24.2.20) of WhatsApp for Android has a file sharing function that works with nearby devices. To transmit or receive files, both smartphones must have the People Nearby screen active. If persons do not have the other person's phone number nearby, their gadgets will not be visible to one another.

Furthermore, to initiate a sharing request, one of the two persons who wish to exchange files wirelessly with each other must open the persons Nearby screen and shake their smartphone. This reminds us of the file-sharing iPhone app Bump, which was popular in 2011. This new capability appears to enable file sizes of up to 2GB. This functionality is still being tested internally at WhatsApp and might be available to users later this year.

As far as we can tell, this file-sharing approach may only be effective for exchanging data between Android smartphones and iPhones. Otherwise, the native file-sharing techniques on Android (Quick Share) and iOS (AirDrop) are more convenient and faster to utilize.In order to simplify the Android environment, Quick Share and Nearby Share were integrated.
