Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced that it will discontinue support for outdated Android phones in January 2025. Notably, users will no longer be able to use the messaging platform on handsets running Android KitKat (version 4.0). So, if you still have an Android handset running Android 4.0, it's time to say goodbye and acquire a new smartphone if you want to keep using WhatsApp.
WhatsApp has undergone numerous adjustments over the years and is now a feature-rich communication tool. Meta just stated that WhatsApp will discontinue support for numerous iPhone devices running iOS 15.1 or earlier on May 5, 2025. The iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus are among the affected devices. Something similar is about to happen with numerous Android models since Meta intends to integrate new functionality, better AI features, improved security requirements, and more.

Beginning January 1, 2025, these devices will no longer support WhatsApp, and all media and chat history will be wiped. It is strongly recommended that you back up all of your data and transfer it to a newer device. For those looking for an alternative, Telegram is compatible with Android devices running Android 6.0 or higher. Old device owners will have to hunt for alternative texting apps or upgrade their cellphones. People who are interested in getting a Galaxy S25 series phone can wait a little longer because Samsung will introduce the smartphone next month.
