WhatsApp working on transcription feature for voice messages

WhatsApp is working on a feature that will provide written transcriptions of incoming voice messages.

According to WEBetaInfo, the new feature has been spotted in the development phase and WhatsApp users will be able to transcribe the audio message to text using speech recognition technology. The feature will be optional and require special permission on iOS.

When the user tries to use the feature for the first time, the following message will appear:

“WhatsApp” Would Like to Access Speech Recognition

Once you grant the permission, you’ll be taken to a new “Transcription” section to try out the service.

Speech data from this app will be sent to Apple to process your requests. This will also help Apple improve its speech recognition technology.

The feature is under development on WhatsApp for iOS.
