ByteDance, the maker of TikTok, appears to be testing a new social networking app called Whee. The app is available on the Google Play Store, but not in all markets.

According to the app description, Whee lets you "capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see." It implies that Whee prioritizes BeReal-style photo sharing among connections above viral content.

Whee's screenshots reveal a style similar to Instagram, with a feed of photographs shared by friends. However, unlike networks such as Instagram and Snapchat, Whee photographs appear to be intended for viewing exclusively by selected pals. Friends can like and comment on each other's posts, but strangers cannot view the content.

Whee is a new social app created to keep you connected with your close friends through life's spontaneous moments. Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self. Whee is the best place for close friends to share life moments.

Artem Russakovskii, an X user, reports that the software is already available in a dozen nations, however the US was not initially launched. Attempting to access Whee from places where it is not officially supported results in an error message, and utilizing a VPN does not get over these restrictions.

TikTok Pte, a subsidiary of ByteDance, developed TikTok Notes, a rival app to Instagram, in April. With Notes, TikTok's feed now includes a grid style similar to Instagram's. It allows users to browse many posts at once.

Notes, in addition to providing a more immersive viewing experience, retains TikTok's social features. Users can still read and comment on any video right from the feed grid. Whee, like TikTok Notes, requires users to have a TikTok account in order to signup.
