Finally, X (formerly known as Twitter) has started to push out yet another feature that users haven't requested. On the platform, users will now be able to make both voice and video calls to one another. CEO Linda Yaccarino had already stated that video chat will be added to the social networking platform back in August, so this isn't entirely unexpected. This is only the most recent development in X's journey to become the "everything" software that its owner, Elon Musk, desires.
Some users see a popup saying "Audio and Video calls are here!" after launching X. The popup also contained instructions on how to modify the feature's functionality, such as who may call whom. You may find these choices in your Direct Messages' preferences area. You can find the Settings menu—which resembles a little gear—in your DMs if you don't want to answer calls from users on X. You may then turn off the calling feature. You may select to accept calls from verified users, contacts in your address book, or just persons you follow, if you really want to keep it enabled.
It's understandable that a lot of individuals would choose not to use this function given X's poor history of establishing safe spaces, particularly for minority populations. Additionally, even though the new calling option is turned on by default, not everyone will see the question. It's usually a good idea to check to see whether it's already enabled on your account before determining whether or not to leave it enabled.
Maybe X will reconsider, and maybe we can exchange this feature to keep Circles alive. However, if this is a function that is required, it would have been wiser to let consumers activate it manually rather than having it activate automatically. Some users might not be aware of the functionality until a random troll calls and tries to provoke them.
