YouTube Music is currently testing a generative AI feature that allows you to create a custom radio by entering a prompt. Once enabled on your device/app/account, a "Ask for music any way you like" card will display in your Home feed.Take note of the presence of the current "Start radio" button.
This purple/pink prompt is comparable to the persistent "Create a radio: Your music tuner" card, which received a separate Library tab > New FAB shortcut earlier this year. This opens a chat-based interface with a section at the bottom where you can "Ask for music." It starts as a full-screen UI with another "Experiment" badge in the upper right corner.
You can also enter a query via voice, with YTM stating that "AI-generated responses are experimental." Quality and accuracy can vary. Please do not submit any confidential or personal information about yourself or others. YTM offers a double-line carousel of suggested ideas, including catchy pop choruses, epic soundtracks, upbeat pop tunes, and the Moscow rock scene. There's also, "Surprise me!"
YouTube Music creates a radio station and displays it on the existing playlist card. Your prompt is utilized as the station name, which is labeled "Created for you" and includes a description.
So yet, there is only one report of YouTube Music's AI radio maker. It does not appear on the devices we checked today. It's a shame YouTube Music doesn't have a youtube.com/new equivalent so more people can test this out. It'll be interesting to see if this requires a YouTube Premium subscription to view.
