YouTube has unveiled a new set of editing options for Shorts, its response to the ever-popular TikTok. This comes after Amazon launched a last-minute proposal to acquire TikTok's US operations.
To begin with, YouTube has updated the video editor for creators, making it easier to rearrange clips, add music and text, and preview the Short. This functionality, which was a "top request from Shorts creators," will be available this spring.
The second technology that YouTube is offering allows creators to automatically sync their modifications with beats. Once you've selected a song, this application will automatically sync your clips to the music's rhythm.
Third, templates will be upgraded so that you can include pictures from your library in your templates. When you use a template, the original creator is attributed automatically.
YouTube Shorts templates include animations, backdrops, and text styles. To reuse a template, click the "Use template" button in a YouTube Short.
Later this spring, YouTube will introduce a new tool that will allow artists to upload picture stickers from their gallery. Creators will also be able to generate stickers with AI from a text prompt.
It's hardly surprising that YouTube is investing heavily in Shorts, given that its main competitor in the short-form video area, TikTok, might be banned in the United States by this Saturday if it fails to sell its US operations.
YouTube isn't the only company taking advantage of TikTok's situation. Recently it was reported that Meta was offering monetary bonuses of up to $5,000 to producers for its short-form video service, Reels. It is even launching a new app called "Edits" to compete with CapCut, a TikTok-integrated service owned by TikTok's parent firm, ByteDance.
