YouTube's development team announced that it will now warn users when it detects and removes their comments that violate the rules of fair use of the service. Bigger content creators have been calling for more control over comment spam on the platform, and this change, along with other new tools, may help Google improve the situation.
If a user continues to post spam comments, YouTube will block their account for 24 hours. According to the statement, tests with the warnings have shown that the situation can indeed be improved. For now, however, these only concern comments made in English and we will have to wait a few months for more languages to be added. Also, the service has significantly improved the systems of automatic detection and removal of such comments, as well as bots in chats.
It is worth noting that Google removed more than 1 billion spam comments in 2022 and emphasizes that the improvements will fight even more effectively the highly annoying and unwanted activities of spammers. It is no coincidence that many important content creators have posted separate videos in 2022 about the problem of spam, which significantly affects the reliability of the service and by extension the profitability of their channels.
