Instagram's map feature just got even more useful as of today, in a way that's quite reminiscent of Google Maps. The new map on Instagram supports search functions and filters, giving users the ability to search for various points of interest (eg restaurants, museums, bars) directly from there through posts, stories and other posts made by users.

The map supports hashtag search and gives you the option to explore it by tapping on areas tagged in posts or Stories. You can also type the name of a point of interest, a city or neighborhood in the Explore section to see posts made by other users on the map. You can also save your searches and share locations with other users.

Using the location stickers on posts and Stories you will see your post on the map, just like the other users if your profile is open to the public. By clicking on a post on the map you will see in turn other user posts in the same location.

This is yet another step Instagram is taking to become the ultimate destination for social networking, marketing, travel, etc. A few days ago, it also unlocked the ability to make a purchase directly from the chat for some small and medium businesses in the US, which is expected that it will soon expand to more countries.
