Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the company is testing a new feature called Take a Break, which will encourage users to take a break from using the app.
As users scroll, the new function will suggest they take a break after a specific amount of time: 10, 20, or 30 minutes. Then, users will receive in-application break reminders after the specific period they set.
Then, after the selected period passes, users will see a message appear on your screen saying: “Time for a break? Take a moment to reset by closing Instagram.” It then offers suggestions about what you might want to do, such as, “Take a few deep breaths; Write down what you’re thinking; Listen to your favorite song; Do something on your to-do list.”
Adam Mosseri explained that the new feature Take a Break is “part of a broader effort to try and give people more control over their experience of Instagram,” adding, “Ultimately, you know what’s best for you when it comes to how you use the app. And we want to make sure we provide tools for you to shape Instagram into what works for you.”
