According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Instagram plans to bring back a version of a chronological feed option next year.

"We're currently working on a version of a chronological feed that we hope to launch next year," Mosseri said.

When Instagram initially started, it provided a chronological feed that presented the most recent Instagram posts when you opened the app; however, in June 2016, Instagram switched to an algorithmic feed that displays posts relevancy. There have been numerous complaints about the Instagram feed over the years, and the company did tweak the algorithm in 2018 to make fresh content appear more frequently.

Instagram claims that its algorithm is meant to uncover the most important events in people's lives, prioritizing posts based on interaction frequency and timeliness, but many Instagram users will undoubtedly be pleased to have a chronological alternative.
