Meta adds new video editing tools, a revised Video tab, and HDR support for Reels

A number of new capabilities for video content on social media platforms have been revealed by Meta. Beginning with Facebook, the app will be able to use the video editing features that were previously only available for the Instagram Reels video format.

The same tools that allow users to reverse, speed up, or replace clips, record voiceovers, decrease noise, search for audio snippets, and more will be available for editing videos that they upload on their Feed. Users of the Meta Business Suite are also receiving the new editing tools.

The Facebook app's Watch tab has been renamed to the Video tab, which serves as "the one-stop shop for everything video on Facebook, including Reels, long-form, and Live content." It will have a new horizontal-scroll area like Instagram that will showcase suggested Reels.

The Explore area of the Video tab has also been updated by Meta, and it now proposes reels, long-form, and live videos based on trending hashtags. The addition of HDR (High Dynamic Range) material capability to the Reels video format is a significant improvement. According to Meta, users will be able to upload HDR videos to Reels using the camera roll on their phone, guaranteeing full HDR playback.

After the firm noticed an increase in HDR content on its apps over the previous year, formal support has now been provided. According to the social media behemoth, this is "the first of our efforts to bring true HDR video support to our family of apps." It overcame a number of technical obstacles to "ensure a smooth transition to HDR video across the diverse range of old and new devices."

Users may now see and comment on Instagram Reels directly while viewing them in the Facebook app, further bridging the gap between Facebook and Instagram. To be effective, though, their Facebook and Instagram accounts must be included in the Accounts Center.
