Microsoft is making Skype ad-free in an update that will be available to users across all devices soon. The update also offers improved AI picture creation features for Skype for Windows and macOS, as well as the ability to sign in instantly on iOS if you're already logged in to another Microsoft application.

Our latest update removes all ads from Skype channels and the entire Skype platform, ensuring a smoother, decluttered and more enjoyable user experience,” says Skype product manager Irene Namuganyi.

The removal of adverts in Skype implies that ads will no longer appear in the main chat interface or the channels area. Microsoft said it listened to user input about ads in Skype and opted to "focus on your chats without any ad distractions, making your Skype experience cleaner and more user-friendly.”

The Today part of Skype, however, will continue, replete with an MSN-powered news stream. I'm sure most Skype users ignore this tab, but you can still disable it in Settings > Appearance if you want to completely remove it.

Let's hope Microsoft responds to user comments about advertisements in Windows. Microsoft is attempting to get Windows users to move to Edge by using malware-like Bing prompts, advertisements in the Start menu, and various other tactics.

Along with removing ads from Skype, Microsoft is also upgrading the AI picture creation features within the app on Windows and macOS. You'll soon be able to rapidly access the AI picture maker from within chat windows, and AI-generated images will expand when clicked. Microsoft has also improved several UI features, making the picture maker feel more comfortable with Apple's macOS design.

Microsoft is also adding OneAuth integration to Skype for iOS, allowing you to sign in instantly if you are already using another Microsoft app. If you've been having trouble transmitting photographs or videos over 5G with Skype, Microsoft has fixed the glitch in a forthcoming update, which will be available in the coming days.
