Minesweeper, a new game that Netflix is adding to its library of exclusive titles, is now playable on both iOS and Android.
With vibrant graphics and new modes, the beloved puzzle game that most people are familiar with from Microsoft Minesweeper, which is playable on Windows 11 and earlier versions from 1990, has been given a makeover. The Minnesweeper game from Netflix looks a lot like, well, Minnesweeper, but it also has a Journey Mode that brings players to various levels across global stages and special daily challenges.
Although there are lots of money-seeking clones of the logic puzzle game "finding and flagging sea mines on a grid" on the App Store and Play Store, Netflix customers won't find any in-game microtransactions or in-game advertisements in the latest version from the streaming behemoth. While games aren't the major draw for Netflix users, the company's efforts to keep its service sticky with users are continued by the influx of independent games, dated triple-A titles, and now Minesweeper's S-tier idle time-killing features.
Netflix isn't the only company investing in mobile and casual games. Several companies, including The New York Times, LinkedIn, Apple Arcade, and Microsoft (via its acquisition of ABK), are focusing on creating sticky experiences after Wordle demonstrated their effectiveness.
