Netflix has announced the launch of Profile Transfer, a feature that allows a user to transfer their existing account to a brand new one on the platform without having to set up their profile from scratch.

This keeps all of his personal data, such as personalized recommendations, watch history, lists of favorite movies and TV shows, games, and other settings that would be annoying and time-consuming to rebuild from scratch.

As the company tries to crack down on password sharing, with Profile Transfer it aims to convince "free" users to finally pay for their own accounts. The feature is launching today and subscribers worldwide will be notified via email. Once it becomes available in their account they will find it in their profile options menu, but there will also be an option to hide it.

People move on, families grow and relationships end. Through these life cycles, the Netflix experience should remain consistent. No matter how our lives unfold, our Netflix profile is a constant to sit back, relax, and pick up where we left off.

It will be interesting to see if users will accept to switch to their own profiles or if they will continue to turn their preference to other services.
