Samsung has officially announced the new version of the Universal Flash Storage standard, with UFS 4.0 coming into mass production from the third quarter of 2022.

UFS 4.0 storage will offer significant improvements in the speed of reading and writing to electronic devices (smartphones, tablets and more), double the bandwidth for the increased data processing needs in the 5G era, as well as much better energy behavior to protect the battery of devices.

Specifically, UFS 4.0 allows read and write speeds of 4200MB / s and 2800MB / s respectively, data transfer at speeds up to 23.2Gbps per channel (twice as much as UFS 3.1), but also 46% lower power consumption than the previous generation.

The first devices with UFS 4.0 storage will most likely be Samsung's new foldables and the Galaxy S23 series that we will see in the fall and early 2023 respectively. The construction of storage space up to 1TB is supported, therefore, it is quite possible that the number of smartphones with a capacity of 512GB and 1TB will increase in the coming years. In addition, the company estimates that we will see UFS 4.0 in other product categories, such as VR devices, AR and systems for cars.
