Spotify has announced the debut of Jam, a new social listening tool. This feature is intended to be utilized in real-time, with both Free and Premium users being able to contribute to a playlist, while also drawing on all of the participants' listening preferences to identify song choices that match everyone's listening likes.

Spotify app users may create a Jam session by inviting a group of friends or family by tapping on the speaker symbol at the bottom of the screen, or the three-dot menu, and selecting "Start a Jam." This will also invite anyone who is using the same Wi-Fi and has Spotify open to join the Jam.

To invite others, the host can utilize Bluetooth and tap phones together, similar to Apple's new NameDrop function featured with iOS 17, have friends scan the QR code on the host's screen, or post a link via social media, text, SMS, and other means.

Both free and premium users can join a Jam, but only premium users can launch a Jam and join from anywhere in the globe. Everyone on their own device may contribute music, see who added each song, and receive suggestions, but only the host can detect who is in the Jam, modify the running order, or remove a song.

This increases Spotify's collaborative experience options, making the app and music listening more sociable. Following the introduction of Blend in 2021, and the increased use of Collaborative Playlists since the beginning of the Covid-19 epidemic.

With Spotify showing no signs of slowing down in recent months, it aims to constantly innovate in the face of competition from the likes of Apple Music and others in order to maintain a competitive advantage.
