According to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, Telegram acquired a record 70 million new users on Monday, when Facebook had a nearly seven-hour outage across its services.

Pavel Durov claimed that the Facebook outage resulted in more than 70 million people joining the platform. He also said that the service worked ‘’flawlessly’’ for the majority of users, however, there was a slowdown in some users in the USA to the increased load.

“The daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day,” Durov was quoted as saying on the channel.

It should be mentioned that Facebook's decision to change WhatsApp's privacy policy in January also resulted in many users trying out Telegram. Durov had reported that 25 million new users logged in Telegram in just 72 hours.
