The first major update of the year for the popular Telegram service is here, with the company adding 10 important features that are set to make users' daily lives much easier.

You can turn any sticker or animated emoji into a profile picture for accounts, groups or channels. Everyone has this option, even if they are not a subscriber to the service's Premium plan. You can also set or suggest to any of your contacts to change their profile picture to a sticker or emoji.

Premium subscribers get the ability to translate in real time any conversation, even those in groups and channels. Touching the Translate bar at the top brings up the options to run, hide and control languages. Ordinary users can use the automatic translation only for their private conversations.

Stickers and emoji are now sorted into categories to make them easier to find. By holding and holding your finger over an emoji, it is enlarged to get a better look at it before you choose to use it. There are currently more than 1 million (!) different stickers and emoji on Telegram.

From now on you can see exactly how much data Telegram is consuming through the redesigned chart that splits this information into WiFi, mobile data and roaming. You can also set limits and exceptions for the media files being handled in your chats, as well as give permission to access various elements of your device.

Finally, the Premium annual subscription plan is offered at a discount of up to 40% if you prepay.
