In the near future, Twitter will make it much easier to avoid unwanted conversations and mentions through revamped Mentions tab features.

The company is working on a new feature that will allow the user to control Mentions in two ways. The first is the ability not to let anyone mention (or tag) your account and the second is only to allow those you follow to include your username in their tweets.

The new function was spotted by well-known researcher Jane Manchum Wong, who made the revelations through the popular social network with the screenshot you can see below.

Mentions are one of the best and easiest ways to introduce other users to the conversation or simply mention them to take a look at your tweet. Nevertheless, there are not a few times when the function is abused to an annoying degree, especially for the most popular and prominent users of the platform.

With the new feature, users will gain more control over their privacy, while something similar is Twitter Circles which allows you to create closed circles with the contacts you want to see your tweets and interact with you.
