Since 2013, when the ability to send voice messages to WhatsApp was added for the first time, the way of communication between users in the popular service began to change. The development team reveals that today we have reached the point where more than 7 billion voice messages are exchanged every day, so it is preparing some new features to make it even easier.

  • Out of Chat Playback: Ability to listen to an audio message when you are out of the conversation, so that you can use other applications or read and reply to other messages.
  • Pause / Resume Recording: When you are recording an audio message, you will be able to pause and resume when you are ready, in case someone interrupts you or you lose your temper.
  • Waveform Visualization: Display the waveform of the audio message.
  • Draft Preview: Ability to preview the audio message before sending it.
  • Remember Playback: If you pause while playing an audio message, you will be able to resume where you left off when you return to the conversation.
  • Fast Playback on Forwarded Messages: Option to play the audio message at 1.5x or 2x speed even in advanced audio messages.

The new features will gradually appear to all users and all versions of WhatsApp in the coming weeks.
