YouTube is warning creators that it will soon begin to demonetize some of the channels on its platform that upload low-quality videos for kids. Outlining its updated policies, YouTube has made clear in a blog post that those creators who produce low-quality content for kids and do not adhere to their new rules will be removed from the YouTube Partnership Program (YPP).
YouTube has long upheld guidelines for what constitutes high- and low-quality kid-friendly content on the platform. Videos that encourage being a good person, learning, creativity, and diversity are examples of " age-appropriate, enriching, engaging, and inspiring content." While low-quality material consists of videos that are overly promotional in nature, deceptively educational, promote bad behaviors, or use children’s characters in questionable ways.
“Our ultimate goal is to foster a safe and enriching environment for families while rewarding trusted creators who are making high-quality kids and family content,” James Beser, director of product management for YouTube’s Kids and Family division said.
