Zoom has announced the acquisition of Kites GmbH (Karlsruhe Information Technology Solutions), a startup that focuses on real-time language translation software with AI technology. Zoom seeks to use this software to facilitate communication between people who speak different languages.
Zoom currently only supports real-time English-language transcription. Therefore, with the acquisition of Kites the company aims to add many translation possibilities to its video conferencing app regardless of the language of the speaker.
“We are continuously looking for new ways to deliver happiness to our users and improve meeting productivity, and MT (machine translation) solutions will be key in enhancing our platform for Zoom customers across the globe,” says Velchamy Sankarlingam, President of Product and Engineering at Zoom in its news release.
