In response to this momentum, Google is rolling out Gemini 3.5 Flash as the new foundation for global search queries, bringing massive processing power to everyday internet exploration. This upgrade underpins a complete redesign of the search box itself, which now dynamically expands to give users room to outline multi-layered prompts, seamlessly blending text, images, files, videos, and active Chrome tabs into a single query.
Beyond visual upgrades, the core functionality is shifting toward autonomous operations with the introduction of Search agents. These digital assistants are designed to run continuously in the background, analyzing web content, blogs, news feeds, and live data streams. Instead of forcing users to manually refresh pages for updates, these agents synthesize changes in real time. For instance, a user looking for housing can input an exhaustive list of apartment requirements, and the agent will monitor listings around the clock, delivering tailored notifications the moment a match appears. Initially, these advanced information agents will roll out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
At the same time, the platform is expanding its real-world execution capabilities through agentic booking. Soon, users in the United States will be able to offload complex logistics directly to the search engine. Whether it involves reserving a venue with specific dietary and spatial needs or coordinating local services like home repairs and pet care, the system aggregates live pricing and availability. It can even make direct voice calls to businesses on behalf of the user to secure appointments. Shopping features are receiving a similar agentic upgrade, transforming the interface into a personalized concierge that actively tracks product drops and inventory changes.
One of the most technically impressive breakthroughs showcased at I/O 2026 is the integration of Google Antigravity and agentic coding. Rather than simply pulling text from external websites, Search can now write code on the fly to build custom, interactive interfaces tailored to a specific query. When a user looks up complex scientific concepts or mechanical processes, the engine instantly codes and assembles a customized dashboard featuring real-time simulators, interactive graphs, and visual tables. This generative user interface capability will be accessible to all users for free, marking a major leap forward in personalized digital education.
For long-term projects, this on-the-fly coding allows users to generate personalized mini-applications within the search ecosystem. Individuals managing major life events like moving or wedding planning can instruct the engine to build dedicated trackers and dashboards. A user attempting to establish a fitness regimen, for example, can generate a custom workout application that automatically syncs with real-time local mapping data, weather forecasts, and business reviews. These personalized mini-apps will debut for premium subscribers in the United States before expanding to a broader audience.
Finally, Google is addressing the need for deep contextual awareness by expanding Personal Intelligence to nearly two hundred countries across dozens of languages without requiring a paid subscription. This feature allows individuals to securely connect their personal data ecosystems, including Gmail, Google Photos, and upcoming integrations with Google Calendar. By combining a global understanding of web data with an individual's personal context, the engine can deliver highly customized answers. Elizabeth Reid emphasized that user control remains central to this integration, allowing people to manage precisely how and when their private data is utilized.
