Instagram removed two of its standalone apps from the respective stores for Android and iOS devices. These are Boomerang and Hyperlapse, which no longer appear in the search engine, but remain active for anyone who already has them installed on their device.
The move follows the announcement of the intention to close and the IGTV application, as Meta wants to emphasize features such as Reels, Stories and Video Posts. Besides, both Boomerang and Hyperlapse are available directly through the main Instagram application.
Boomerang appeared as a standalone application in 2014 to allow users to create mini videos from 10 bursts to share on other platforms. To date, it has been downloaded about 301 million times worldwide.
Hyperlapse was released in 2015 to create timelapse videos with stabilization and the ability to accelerate up to 12 times the original download speed. Its popularity was not as great, as it dropped just 23 million times in 7 years.
It is obvious that the Instagram development team wants to integrate as many features as possible into the main application and get rid of the need to support more separate applications.
